MANILA, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines recorded a total of 701,884 deaths in 2024, a 1 percent increase from the 694,821 deaths registered in 2023, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The figure corresponds to a crude death rate of 6.2, or about six deaths per 1,000 population, unchanged from the previous year, the PSA said on Friday.
PSA data showed that the number of registered deaths fluctuated from 2015 to 2024, with notable declines in 2017, 2020 and 2022. Over the 10 years, the total number of registered deaths rose by 25.2 percent, from 560,605 in 2015 to 701,884 in 2024.
On average, about 1,918 deaths were registered per day in 2024, equivalent to roughly 80 deaths per hour, or approximately one death every minute. ■
