MOSCOW, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Russia has identified a promising location on the Moon for the possible construction of a lunar base, and it will be studied by a lunar rover, an official from Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos said Tuesday.
Denis Kutovoy, deputy director of the space systems department at Roscosmos, said an explorer rover will operate in the selected area on the Moon for establishing a lunar base, where it will conduct soil studies.
According to Kutovoy, Roscosmos is currently laying an "experimental foundation" to define long-term goals for human expansion into space.
Roscosmos runs the Luna-Glob lunar exploration program, which aims to advance toward the establishment of a fully robotic lunar base and eventually support crewed lunar missions. ■
